How We Met

Laura and I have known each other in passing for years, but one warm spring day in Dundee we ultimately met.  Whether fate or fortune, down 50th street from our first home, Laura was waiting outside of a local tavern when I walked up and said hello.

I took the opportunity to speak with a pretty girl, she was just back for her senior year from studying abroad in Spain and ready to have fun.  We started to talk and the next thing I knew it was an hour later and she was telling me how she was neglecting her friends.  I tried to get her to go to a party with me, but only got her number… I couldn’t have been happier.

Over the time we began spending more and more time together, Laura became my best friend and I fell in love with her.

The Engagement

Since my time at Creighton University, I realized if all possible I wanted to ‘pop the question’ in the Jesuit Garden’s on Creighton’s campus.  Laura being a Creighton girl, also held the garden as a special place.

On a warm Saturday in January, I purchased Laura’s engagement ring.  After holding it for maybe 3 hours I realized I wasn’t going to be able to wait.  I fabricated a slew of poor excuses of why it was important for just her and I to go to the Jesuit Gardens that night.

The night was warm though there was still standing snow sitting quietly in the grass.  A dry sidewalk illuminated periodically by low hanging lights wound through the snow.  As we walked through the gardens, which sat dormant under the pristine white snow, I expressed how Laura had changed my life and how she would hopefully be my future.  My emotions ran through my words and inside the halo of the third light I got on one knee and professed my love.
